UNY IPA STUDENTS SUCCESSFUL TABLED CHAMPION 1 NATIONAL LKTI IN ITS

Students of FMIPA UNY won 1st place in the 2016 Scientific in Action National Scientist in Action (SIA) FMIPA ITS 2016 Competition, which was held by BEM FMIPA of the Ten November Institute of Technology. The event was one of a series of great events of ITS FMIPA. In this competition the UNY Team was represented by Herianto (Science Education 2013), Anggistia Devianti Iswanto (Science Education 2013), and Dinar Indah Lufita Sari (Chemistry 2014), they were members of the KSI-Mist UKM FMIPA UNY. In the event, the second and third place winners were won by the Universitas Brawijaya team, while the fourth winner was won by the host of the November ten institute of technology. The LKTIN was attended by 118 teams from PTN / PTS in Indonesia, which were then selected into 10 teams based on paper assessments, and 10 teams were required to present their work on the ITS campus. 10 teams that succeeded in becoming finalists were UNY (1 team), Undip (1 team), ITB (1 team), Univ.Brawijaya (4 teams) and ITS (3 teams). At the event there were three evaluation points namely paper evaluation, presentation and poster.

The 2016 Scientific in Scientific Writing in Action (SIA) FMIPA ITS 2016 raised the theme 'The role of young innovators in developing sustainable development towards an independent Indonesia'. The final of LKTIN SIA 2016 was held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the LPPM ITS environment building. The team leader, Herianto said that the competition in this competition was so tight, all teams had good work, so it was difficult to predict who would be the winner. "Thank God, the FMIPA UNY team managed to get the first position," he said.

At the event, students of FMIPA UNY raised the title, "Feed biscuit for ruminants: the development of animal feed biscuits from straw, bran and banana weevil as a source of fiber for ruminants to overcome the scarcity of forage in the dry season". According to them, the problem often faced by ruminant farmers during the dry season is the scarcity of forage feed such as grass. In the dry season, grass or other forage sources will die due to lack of water so that it will affect the availability of animal feed. On the other hand, there are many agricultural wastes that are underutilized, such as rice straw, bran and banana weevil which can actually be used for ruminant animal feed. However, the waste does not last long so it is necessary to preserve feed. One way to preserve the waste is by making the material into dry biscuits. Low water content in biscuits can extend the shelf life of feed up to 6 months, this is because the activity of myroorganisms is inhibited. The combination of these three ingredients as ingredients for biscuits also aims to make the nutritional content of the biscuits more complete so that they can meet the nutritional needs needed by livestock. The process of making biscuits in general there are several stages, namely preparation of tools and materials, making dough, printing, baking, cooling and packaging. (Herianto)
