UNY and UNNES Forge Strategic Synergy to Strengthen Science and Primary Education

Yogyakarta, September 18, 2025 – The Science Education Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) and the Doctoral Program (Ph.D.) in Primary Education, Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), officially signed an Implementation Agreement (IA) on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at FMIPA UNY. This agreement marks the commitment of both institutions to advancing education and research in Indonesia.
The collaboration focuses on three main pillars:
- Research and Scientific Publications – Jointly designing and conducting strategic and innovative research in Science and Primary Education
- Academic Development – Facilitating faculty and student exchanges, as well as organizing national and international seminars, workshops, and conferences.
- Community Engagement – Applying research findings to empower communities and enhance the quality of school education.
Prof. Dr. Insih Wilujeng, M.Pd., Head of the Department of Science Education at UNY, stated in her remarks, “The collaboration between UNNES and UNY is a concrete and meaningful step to develop scientific knowledge. By combining our strengths and expertise, we believe this synergy will produce impactful innovations in science education for the advancement of the nation.” Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Sarwi, M.Si., Head of the Ph.D. Program in Primary Education at UNNES Graduate School, emphasized that this synergy would enrich knowledge and enhance the capacities of lecturers, students, and researchers from both sides. “Our target is to produce joint publications and develop new learning models that can serve as references,” he said. The MoU signing ceremony was held solemnly, attended by structural officials, lecturers, and students. The event continued with a visiting lecture on culturally integrated STEM-based science learning. With this collaboration, UNY and UNNES are optimistic about contributing more significantly to producing excellent graduates, researchers, and education practitioners capable of competing globally.
