Science Education Department Conducts Minimum Competency Assessment-oriented Learning Development Training

The 21st century is an era full of challenges and rapid changes. To be able to face this, students are expected to have basic literacy, competence, and character quality. For all these skills to be maximally achieved, the ability to think and reason is needed because this ability is usually used to solve a problem. This ability is directly related to literacy skills. Six basic literacy points were agreed upon at the World Economic Forum in 2015: literacy in reading and writing, numeracy literacy, science literacy, digital literacy, financial literacy, and cultural and civic literacy. The six basic literacy points are literacy that is closely related to thinking and reasoning skills, namely numeracy literacy. Literacy is closely related to language, while numeracy is strongly related to mathematics. Numeracy literacy is important in various aspects of life, home, work, and social life. This ability is closely related to making good and correct decisions in everyday life.

Given the importance of numeracy literacy, every student is expected to master it. However, suppose we reflect on the 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) test results announced by The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In that case, it is unfortunate that the ability of Indonesian students still needs to be improved. These results show the low literacy of students in Indonesia in the three abilities tested because PISA does not just measure knowledge but also students' literacy skills. Literacy skills are an evaluation of the learning and assessment system carried out in Indonesia. One of the government's responses to overcome this problem is to issue the Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) program. To support this AKM program's success, all parties' participation and synergy is needed. Most teachers stated that they needed to understand the essence of the AKM, the aspects to be measured, the form of questions used, or how to develop science learning that can improve students' literacy and numeracy skills. Reflecting on this condition, the team proposed a program, namely "Training on the development of science learning oriented to Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM)" for junior high school science teachers in Yogyakarta City.

Dr. Sabar Nurohman, S.Pd.Si., M.Pd., Widodo Setiyo Wibowo, S.Pd.Si., M.Pd., Drs initiated the activity. Allesius Maryanto, M.Pd., and Dr. Laifa Rahmawati, S.Pd., M.Pd as lecturers in Science Education at Yogyakarta State University. The training was held on Friday, August 18, 2023, in Courtroom II FMIPA UNY. The partners received this program very well because it was relevant to the problems faced today. The number of activity participants was 30 teachers from MGMP IPA Yogyakarta City. This program is the first step to improve the ability of teachers in the city of Yogyakarta in the field of assessment, especially AKM. It is hoped that this activity can provide positive insight for teachers in preparing students' literacy skills.
