Yogyakarta, December 20, 2023 - On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, 37 teachers from various schools in Yogyakarta participated in training on the MiKIR approach (2013 Curriculum Learning Model), Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT), and Teaching at Right Level (TaRL). The event was held in Session Room 3 FMIPA UNY and attended by a team of lecturers from the Science Education Department consisting of Dr. Sabar Nurohman, Dr. Laifa Rahmawati, Putri Anjarsari, S.Si., M.Pd., Purwanti Widhy Hastuti, M.Pd., Widodo Setiyo Wibowo, M.Pd., and Rizki Arumning Tyas, M.Pd. This training aims to increase the capacity of teachers in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum, especially through the application of the MiKIR, CRT, and TaRL approaches. Successful implementation of an effective curriculum requires a deep understanding of student needs, responsiveness to the cultural context, and the use of teaching methods that are appropriate to the level of student understanding. The event was opened by a representative of the lecturer team, conveying the importance of these approaches in providing effective and relevant teaching. Dr. Sabar Nurohman, one of the speakers, gave a presentation on MiKIR and how this method can be integrated into the daily learning process. Next, Putri Anjarsari, S.Si., M.Pd. explained about the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach. CRT is an approach that recognizes and appreciates the cultural diversity of students, so that learning becomes more connected to the reality of their lives. Widodo Setiyo Wibowo, M.Pd., provided insight into Teaching at Right Level (TaRL), a method that emphasizes adjusting learning materials according to each student's level of understanding. It is considered an effective strategy to respond to the diversity of understanding levels within a class. After the presentation, there was a discussion and Q&A session, where participants could share their experiences and get answers to their questions. This discussion provided an opportunity for teachers to exchange information and strategies that could be applied in their classrooms. The training lasted from 7:30am to 2pm, creating enough space to dive into each concept and ensure a deep understanding. Participants from Salman Alfarisi IT Junior High School, Abu Bakar IT Junior High School, Bakti Insani IT Junior High School, Piri 1 Yogyakarta Junior High School, and Masjid Syuhada IT Junior High School are expected to apply the knowledge gained in daily practice at their schools. Thus, this training is not only a means of delivering information, but also a collaborative platform to build teachers' capacity in providing better education and in accordance with the spirit of Merdeka Curriculum.
