Yogyakarta, November 22, 2024 - The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Yogyakarta State University (FMIPA UNY) successfully organized a Visiting Professor event that presented Prof. Xiaohu Zhu, a leading academic from Shanghai Normal University and Director of UNESCO-TEC. This activity took place for three days, from November 20 to 22, 2024, at the Session Room 3 FMIPA UNY. With the big theme “Interdisciplinary STEM,” Prof. Xiaohu Zhu delivered three important topics in this lecture, namely:

• Application of Interdisciplinary STEM in Education
• Impact of Interdisciplinary STEM on Innovation
• Challenges and Opportunities in Interdisciplinary STEM

This event was specifically designed for 5th semester students from the Science Education Study Program who are currently taking STEM courses. In her presentation, Prof. Xiaohu Zhu provided in-depth insight into the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. She also encouraged students to think innovatively and understand the challenges and opportunities that arise in cross-disciplinary STEM applications. “Cross-disciplinary collaboration is the key to solving complex problems in the real world,” said Prof. Xiaohu Zhu. This activity received high enthusiasm from students, who not only gained new knowledge but also had the opportunity to discuss directly with international experts in the STEM field. This activity is expected to broaden students' horizons.
