Strengthening PCK through Reflective Teaching: UNY Science Education Lecturers Empower Bantul’s Junior High School Science Teachers

To enhance the pedagogical competence of junior high school science teachers, lecturers from the Science Education Program at FMIPA UNY conducted a community service program (PkM) entitled “Strengthening Science Teachers’ Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) through Reflective Teaching Training and Contextual Student Worksheet Development to Support Deep Learning”. The workshop took place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at SMP Negeri 5 Banguntapan, Bantul, and was attended by 30 science teachers from the Bantul MGMP group. The PkM team consisted of Susilowati, M.Pd.Si. (chair), along with members Prof. Dr. Insih Wilujeng, M.Pd., Purwanti Widhy Hastuti, M.Pd., and Rizki Arumning Tyas, M.Pd., supported by five students of the Science Education program. The workshop focused on guiding teachers through the process of creating reflective teaching plans — involving the stages of suggestion, problem, hypothesis, reasoning, and testing — and practicing the development of contextual student worksheets (LKPD). The training utilized lectures, discussions, and practical workshops. Evaluation was based on teacher engagement, quality of reflective teaching products, and participant feedback. This initiative aims to improve teachers’ reflective practices and strengthen their Pedagogical Content Knowledge in addressing the challenges of 21st-century science education.
