Science Education Students of UNY Participate in Humanitarian Community Service Program in Langsa, Aceh

Students from the Science Education Program at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) took part in a Humanitarian Community Service Program (KKN Kemanusiaan) in Langsa, Aceh, as a response to the flash floods and landslides that affected several areas in North Sumatra, particularly Aceh. The humanitarian program was conducted from January 8 to February 6, 2026, aiming to support community recovery not only through physical assistance but also through educational and psychosocial interventions. The participating Science Education students were Alya Dina Ariyanto, Annisa Nafilatun Nikmah, Nindan Putri Desfi Anggraeni, Amalia Ikhlasiati, and Muhammad Faiq Zarkoni. They were directly involved in humanitarian activities at the disaster-affected sites.

During the program, the students carried out various activities, including cleaning flood-affected villages, with a particular focus on school environments to help restore educational facilities. In addition, they organized temporary learning activities for children to ensure continuity of education during the recovery phase. Beyond physical and educational support, the students also provided psychosocial assistance to children and community members. This support was intended to help address emotional trauma and promote mental well-being, especially among school-aged children affected by the disaster. Through this Humanitarian Community Service Program, Science Education students of UNY demonstrated their role as agents of humanity and social change, integrating academic competence, empathy, and community service. The program also reflects UNY’s commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in disaster response and community engagement.
