The Science Subject Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP) for MTs in Temanggung Regency organised a working visit and practical session at the Science Education Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) on Saturday, 8 August 2026. This series of activities, which took place with great enthusiasm, began with an official opening ceremony, the delivery of welcoming speeches, the signing of a cooperation agreement, a group photo session, and was followed by the presentation of material and laboratory practicals led directly by experts from the Department of Science Education, FMIPA UNY.

The event was officially opened by the Deputy Dean for Planning, Finance, General Affairs and Resources (PKUSD) of FMIPA UNY, Dr Pujianto, M.Pd., along with his team, who in his address expressed appreciation and gratitude for the trust placed by the Temanggung Regency MTs Science Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP IPA) in selecting UNY as a partner for competence development. He emphasised the importance for science teachers to continually update their knowledge and utilise relevant alternative laboratory equipment in madrasahs, whilst offering various training programmes including the School/Madrasah Laboratory Head Certification, and expressed his hope that this collaboration would continue to be closely maintained on an ongoing basis.

On the following occasion, the Chair of the Temanggung Regency MTs Science Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP IPA), Mr Muhammad Aris, M.Pd., expressed his deepest gratitude to UNY for the warm welcome he had received. He explained that the main purpose of the visit to the laboratory was to ensure that science teachers did not fall behind the latest developments in laboratory technology. Through this activity, it is hoped that the teachers will be able to see first-hand the latest modern laboratory equipment and identify alternative ways of utilising laboratory equipment that can be applied in their respective madrasahs, whilst also strengthening the cooperative relationship between the MGMP and UNY.

Similar support was also expressed by the Supervisor of the Temanggung Regency MTs Science Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP), Ms Anik Yuliani, M.Pd., who commended the UNY Department of Science Education for its willingness to facilitate the teachers. She encouraged teachers who do not yet meet the required qualifications to take advantage of the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme or the Science Laboratory Head training at UNY so that they can become official Laboratory Heads at their respective schools, and expressed her hope that all the knowledge gained would be utilised to the full for the advancement of science education in Temanggung Regency.

Following the opening session and the signing of the cooperation agreement, the programme continued with the main agenda of training and laboratory practicals. The Mechanics and Optics practical sessions were delivered directly by Dr Didik Setyawarno, S.Pd.Si., M.Pd., whilst the Microscopy and Torso practical sessions were led by Dr Ismail Fikri Natadiwijaya, S.Si., M.Pd. Through these sessions, participants gained first-hand experience in operating state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and effectively applying practical-based learning techniques. The smooth running and success of this event were fully supported by the organising team and facilitators from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNY.
