Two students on the Teaching Practice (PK) programme at Yogyakarta State University, Maria Ajeng Febrianingsih and Muhammad Fauzan, conducted a science lesson through a practical session on food content testing with Year 8 pupils at Bantul State Junior High School No. 3. The activity took place on Wednesday, 19 August 2026 and Friday, 21 August 2026. Muhammad Fauzan taught Class VIII C, whilst Maria Ajeng Febrianingsih taught Class VIII D. The practical session formed part of the ‘Human Digestive System’ module, specifically covering nutrition and food. The pupils worked in groups to investigate the starch, glucose and fat content of various foodstuffs. They recorded their observations in their worksheets, discussed them, and then presented their findings to the class. In Class VIII D, cassava tape was used to demonstrate that traditional foods familiar to the pupils’ daily lives can also serve as subjects for science investigation. The pupils appeared enthusiastic about observing changes in the food samples, comparing test results, and linking these to the functions of nutrients in the body. This activity supports SDG 4 through active, contextual and collaborative learning, as well as SDG 3 by strengthening pupils’ understanding of food and health. The activity was supervised by mentor teacher Avinda Eka Damayanti, S.Pd., and PK supervisor Putri Anjarsari, M.Pd.
