FMIPA UNY and IAIN Pontianak Graduate School Initiate Collaboration: Integrating Islam and Science in Education

As part of academic expansion and the pursuit of integrative science-Islamic education, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) initiated a strategic collaboration with the Graduate School of IAIN Pontianak on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, held at the IAIN Pontianak Graduate Building. The meeting explored several collaborative plans, including:
- Faculty exchange in Islamic Astronomy,
- Joint research on integrating the Qur’an and science in science learning,
- Sustaining community service programs (PkM) in Melawi Regency,
- Identifying local potentials in Kalimantan for integration into science curricula, and
- Science education collaboration for early childhood through engagement with the PAUD program.
Representing FMIPA UNY were:
- Purwanti Widhy Hastuti, M.Pd. (Head of Undergraduate Science Education Program)
- Dr. Sabar Nurohman, M.Pd. (Head of Master’s in Science Education Program)
- Didik Setyawarno, M.Pd. (Secretary of the Science Education Department)
The delegation was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Tien Aminatun (Vice Dean for Planning, Finance, General Affairs, and Human Resources FMIPA UNY) and Isti Yunita, Ph.D. (Head of International Affairs and Cooperation Unit FMIPA UNY). This early collaboration is expected to grow into a sustainable academic partnership in teaching, research, and community engagement, emphasizing a holistic integration of scientific and Islamic perspectives.
