UNY and Melawi Education Office Hold Workshop on Science Literacy-Based Learning and Assessment in West Kalimantan

In an effort to enhance the quality of science education, the Department of Science Education, FMIPA UNY, in collaboration with the Education and Culture Office of Melawi Regency, held a workshop titled “Science Literacy-Oriented Learning and Assessment (PISA 2025 Framework)” on July 30–31, 2025 in Nanga Pinoh, West Kalimantan. The event was officially opened by the Head of Melawi’s Education Office, Mr. Yussenno, S.Pd., M.M. The speakers from UNY included Didik Setyawarno, M.Pd., Purwanti Widhy Hastuti, M.Pd., and Dr. Sabar Nurohman, M.Pd. The workshop covered three core areas: (1) Introduction to the Science Literacy Framework 2025, (2) Development of science literacy-based learning, and (3) Construction of science literacy-based assessment tools. One highlight of the event was a hands-on session on designing assessment instruments using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Participants were guided to use AI tools to create HOTS-oriented, contextual, and adaptive test items suitable for science classrooms. Many participants felt highly inspired and motivated by the innovative approach, which introduced new perspectives in technology-integrated science education. This workshop laid the groundwork for further professional development of science teachers in Kalimantan.
