Driving Innovation and Real Contribution: Seminar of Research Groups and Community Service Initiatives at Science Education Department FMIPA UNY 2025

Yogyakarta, April 25, 2025 — The Science Education Department of FMIPA Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) successfully held the Research Group Proposal Seminar and Community Service Program Presentation, as part of the Research Group (RG) scheme and Off-Campus Lecturer Activity Scheme. The event, conducted virtually via Zoom, aimed to review and enhance the implementation plans of research and community service programs based on collaboration, innovation, and integration of local potential. The seminar was officially opened with remarks from the management representative of the Science Education Department, emphasizing the strategic role of Research Groups in fostering innovative research and real contributions to society.

A total of five Research Groups from the Science Education Department presented their proposals:​​

  • Developing Virtual Reality-based science learning media integrating Ethnoscience for junior high school teachers in Bantul District through Lumi application training.
  • Conducting a workshop on the development of science literacy-oriented assessments to prepare teachers for the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
  • Creating science learning packages based on Deep Learning approaches, aimed at reducing cognitive load and improving student achievement within the Merdeka Curriculum framework.
  • Testing the effectiveness of digital comics inspired by Borobudur Temple reliefs, integrated with Ethnoscience, to reinforce students’ Pancasila Student Profile.
  • Designing a Project-Based Learning model using local culinary potentials as context material for digestive system lessons, to enhance students’ 4C skills (Critical thinking, Creativity, Communication, Collaboration).

Each proposal received constructive feedback from internal reviewers to ensure the quality and readiness of the programs for implementation. This seminar highlights the strong commitment of the Science Education Department, FMIPA UNY, to advancing collaborative research, innovative learning, and impactful community service, aligning with the vision of Kampus Merdeka to bridge academic excellence and societal needs.
