Educational Visit of Science Education Students to Assalaam Astronomy Center: Welcoming the Future of Science

On Thursday, June 27, 2024, 2nd semester undergraduate students of Science Education of Yogyakarta State University (UNY) underwent a field study for the Earth and Space Science course at the Assalaam Astronomy Center. A total of 142 students participated in this activity, accompanied by lecturers Didik Setyawarno, Widodo Setiyo Wibowo, and Laifa Rahmawati. Upon arrival at the location, the UNY group was warmly welcomed by the head of the lodge and the Head of the Astronomy Center, Mr. AR Sugeng Riadi. The event began with a reception session, where Mr. AR Sugeng Riadi gave a short presentation on the 2025 Calendar and How to Understand Stereogram Images. The students were given a detailed explanation on how to view and understand complex stereogram images.

After the material session, the activity continued with the practice of using the solar telescope. Students were given the opportunity to try out two types of solar telescopes available at the Assalaam Astronomy Center. In addition, they also learned how to use a sundial, a very useful tool for understanding the movement of the sun and time. This visit provided a valuable learning experience for the students, enriching their understanding of earth and space science. Hopefully, this kind of activity can continue to be carried out to broaden students' horizons and improve their practical skills in the field of science.
