Bantul, July 9, 2025 — To improve the quality of science instruction at the junior high school level, lecturers from the Science Education Program, FMIPA UNY, conducted a workshop entitled: “Strengthening Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) for Junior High School Science Teachers in MGMP Bantul through Reflective Teaching Training, Scientific Literacy in the PISA Framework, and Digital-Based Assessment as Learning.” The workshop took place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at SMP Negeri 5 Banguntapan, Bantul, and was attended by 30 science teachers from the Science Teacher Association (MGMP) in the Bantul district. This community service initiative was led by two lecturer teams from the Science Education Department at FMIPA UNY.

The first team, the Integrated Science Learning Team, includes:

The workshop began with an overview of the importance of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) in developing professional and impactful science teaching. Teachers were trained in reflective teaching practices, guiding them through structured reflection on past lessons, identifying areas for improvement, and designing concrete instructional changes. In the assessment session, teachers explored the concept of Assessment as Learning, which focuses on empowering students to reflect and take ownership of their learning. Participants designed digital-based assessment tools aligned with formative assessment goals and 21st-century learning strategies. This interactive and collaborative workshop provided meaningful strategies for science teachers to enhance their teaching effectiveness and assessment literacy. The organizers hope that this activity becomes a catalyst for sustained professional development and innovation in science education across Bantul.
