UNY Science Education Lecturers Visit Genetics Indonesia: Initiating Collaboration of Teaching Practitioners for Biotechnology Courses

On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, representatives of Lecturers from the Science Education Department of Yogyakarta State University (UNY), namely Dr. Winarto, Rizki Arumning Tyas, and Widodo Setiyo Wibowo, conducted a partnership development visit to PT Global Genetika Indonesia, or better known as Genetics Indonesia. The group was received directly by the founder and head of the company, Mr. Britanto.
During the visit, the group had the opportunity to see firsthand Genetics Indonesia's sophisticated laboratory which is equipped with the latest technology, such as Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), Microarray, Real-time PCR, and various other modern instrumentation. Genetics Indonesia, which has been established since 2016, is a leading biotechnology company in Indonesia that focuses on health services based on molecular genetics and modern diagnostics. They also provide various services, including Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT), clinical laboratory, pharmacogenetics, and others.

In this meeting, many discussions were held regarding the link and match between campuses and the business and industrial world, especially in the field of biotechnology. One of the important results of the meeting was the initiation of collaboration between UNY Science Education and Genetics Indonesia through the Teaching Practitioner program in the Biotechnology course. It is hoped that this program can provide a real contribution in enriching the learning experience of students by presenting experienced practitioners in the field of molecular genetics.
