SEAMEO SEAMOLEC Practitioners Teach Learning Video Development in UNY Science Education

On Wednesday-Thursday, September 25-26, 2024, 5th semester students of the Science Education Study Program at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) got a valuable opportunity through a lecture given by a teaching practitioner, Mr. Dona Octanary, M.Pd. from SEAMEO SEAMOLEC. This lecture was held in Meeting Room 3, FMIPA UNY, with the main focus on the development of learning videos.

In this lecture, Mr. Dona discussed in depth the importance of utilizing learning videos as a supporting medium for the teaching and learning process. Students were invited to understand the steps in making learning videos, starting from the reasons for using them, the process of making them, to the methods that can be used such as screen recording and process videos, complete with explanations of the advantages and disadvantages of each method. In addition, students were also provided with knowledge about video production equipment, both hardware and software needed in video production.

One of the important points conveyed was good shooting techniques, including camera angles, image size, camera movement, and the use of screencasts to display material more dynamically. At the end of the session, students were given the task of developing a digital learning video. This task required students to create a complete video with a storyline that had been developed, using a presenter with a transparent display, and improving technical aspects such as lighting and audio quality. The video shooting process was carried out in an audio-visual studio for more professional results.
The students participating in the lecture, Eka and Shafa, gave a positive impression after attending this session. Eka said, "This lecture is very useful, because we understand how to make interesting and quality learning videos. It is very relevant for our future profession as teachers." Shafa added, "I am more confident in making learning videos and understand that technology like this is very important in the digital era."
The development of skills in making learning videos has great benefits for prospective science teacher students. They not only learn about teaching materials, but also how to convey the material in an interesting and effective way through digital media. These skills will be very useful when they enter the world of work, where mastery of technology is one of the important competencies for an educator in the 21st era.
