Literacy Innovation through Science Crossword Puzzles, UNY Mengajar Increases the Enthusiasm of Junior High School Students in Magelang
Primary tabs

The UNY Mengajar program has once again shown its positive impact in supporting the world of education. From July 22 to November 22, 2024, two students from the Science Education Study Program, FMIPA UNY, M. Fahrezy and Putri Luthfiani, participated in this program at SMP Negeri 1 Magelang. This program is funded by a grant from the Independent Campus Competition Program (PKKM) and aims to support improving the quality of education at the secondary school level.
One of the work programs carried out by Fahrezy and Putri is Literacy, an approach to improving reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills effectively. The UNY Mengajar team presents an innovative program in the form of Science Crossword Puzzles (TTS) on the Earth and Solar System material.
This work program combines elements of the Crossword Puzzle game with science-based literacy learning. Each box in the TTS contains questions that challenge students to read the instructions carefully, think critically, and find answers that match the definition. Through this approach, students not only learn about the concept of the Earth and the Solar System but also improve their literacy skills.
This approach creates a fun and interactive learning atmosphere, making students more interested and motivated to study science. "We hope this program can help students understand the material in an interesting way and train their critical thinking skills," said Putri Luthfiani.
The presence of programs such as UNY Mengajar shows how collaboration between universities and schools can have a real impact on improving the quality of education. With an innovative work program, this team has succeeded in proving that learning can be a fun and beneficial activity.
