Science Education Department FMIPA UNY Conducts Astronomy Practitioner Lecture for Undergraduate Students

The Science Education Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), organized a Practitioner Lecture for the Earth and Space Science course on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Ballroom, 4th Floor, Graduate Building of FMIPA UNY. The activity invited Mr. AR. Sugeng Riyadi, S.Pd., M.Ud., Head of the Assalaam Astronomy Center Surakarta, as the guest speaker. The event began with the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Science Education Department FMIPA UNY and Assalaam Astronomy Center as part of efforts to strengthen academic collaboration and astronomy education development. The event was officially opened by the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Science Education Program, Mrs. Purwanti Widhy Hastuti, M.Pd.

The practitioner lecture was attended by fourth-semester undergraduate students enrolled in the Earth and Space Science course. The activity was designed to provide contextual learning experiences through the integration of theoretical concepts and practical astronomy activities. During the session, students gained insights into the application of astronomy in daily life. Besides attending the lecture session, students also had the opportunity to practice using astronomical instruments for solar observation and document their observation results. Through this activity, students were expected not only to understand astronomy concepts theoretically but also to gain authentic experiences in scientific observation processes. This program supports students in enhancing both academic competencies and practical skills as future science educators.
