On August 1 and 8, 2026, a Community Service Program for Lecturers Outside Campus (PKM-DLK) entitled “Workshop on Ethno-STE(A)M Teaching Material Innovation to Upskill Teachers’ Capacity in Local Wisdom-Based Learning” was conducted. The activity was organized by a team of lecturers from the Science Education Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, and was attended by teachers from SMPIT Salman Al-Farisi Yogyakarta. This community service program aimed to enhance the capacity of teachers at SMPIT Salman Al-Farisi Yogyakarta in developing and implementing innovative Ethno-STE(A)M-based teaching materials by utilizing local wisdom as a meaningful learning context.

The program was conducted in two sessions. The first session was held online via Zoom Meeting on Saturday, August 1, 2026, while the second session took place offline at SMPIT Salman Al-Farisi Yogyakarta on Saturday, August 8, 2026. A total of 25 teachers participated in the program. The organizing team consisted of Ir. Ekosari Ningrum, M.P., Prof. Dr. Asri Widowati, M.Pd., Dr. Winarto, M.Pd., and Rita Bekti Utami, M.Pd. During the first session, participants received materials and conceptual reinforcement on innovative Ethno-STE(A)M-based teaching materials and the integration of local wisdom into learning. The topics covered included the nature and implementation of Ethno-STE(A)M in education, the identification and mapping of local wisdom potentials, and strategies for developing teaching materials that integrate the Ethno-STE(A)M approach with local contexts. Following the presentations, participants engaged in discussions and question-and-answer sessions with the lecturer team to deepen their understanding and explore possible applications within the learning context at SMPIT Salman Al-Farisi Yogyakarta.

At the end of the first session, the teachers were assigned to develop Ethno-STE(A)M-based teaching materials to be presented during the second session. The assigned products included teaching modules, lesson plans, and/or student worksheets integrating local wisdom into the learning process. The second session was held offline on August 8, 2026, at SMPIT Salman Al-Farisi Yogyakarta. The activity began with the signing of cooperation documents, namely the Implementation Arrangement (IA) and Cooperation Agreement (PKS), as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the involved institutions. The teachers then presented the teaching materials they had developed based on the knowledge and guidance provided during the first session. Through these presentations, the participants explained their instructional designs and demonstrated how the Ethno-STE(A)M approach and local wisdom had been integrated into the learning process. The organizing team subsequently provided feedback, recommendations, and suggestions for improvement to help refine the teaching materials and ensure their suitability for the characteristics of learning, students’ needs, and the local wisdom potentials being utilized.

The program continued with the presentation of follow-up plans as part of the sustainability of the workshop outcomes. The implementation of this PKM-DLK program provided teachers at SMPIT Salman Al-Farisi Yogyakarta with knowledge, understanding, and practical experience in developing Ethno-STE(A)M-based teaching materials using local wisdom as a learning context. Through the series of activities, the teachers not only received conceptual reinforcement but also applied their understanding through the development and presentation of teaching materials. The teaching materials developed by the participants received feedback and recommendations from the lecturer team to support further refinement and implementation in the learning process at SMPIT Salman Al-Farisi Yogyakarta. In addition, the program resulted in the signing of the IA and PKS, further strengthening collaboration among the parties involved. Overall, the program is expected to support the improvement of teachers’ capacity in designing and implementing innovative, contextual, meaningful, and local wisdom-based learning through the Ethno-STE(A)M approach.
