A total of 124 new undergraduate students of the Science Education Study Program participated in a Department Overview Session as part of the 2026 Student Orientation Program (PKKMB) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (FMIPA UNY). The activity was held on August 20, 2026, at Meeting Room 2, FMIPA UNY. The session provided an opportunity for new students to become more familiar with the academic environment and educational system of the Department of Science Education. During the session, students received important information about the department, curriculum, course structure, subjects, lecturers, as well as administrative procedures and services that they need to understand throughout their studies.

The Department Overview Session featured Prof. Dr. Insih Wilujeng, M.Pd., Head of the Department of Science Education, Dr. Didik Setyawarno, Secretary of the Department, and Purwanti Widhy Hastuti, M.Pd., Coordinator of the Undergraduate Science Education Study Program. Prucesia Silva, the Department Administrator, also provided information regarding administrative services and procedures. The new students were introduced to various aspects of the Department of Science Education and encouraged to prepare themselves for their academic journey. They also received an overview of the undergraduate curriculum, course structure, and the subjects they will undertake throughout their studies. In addition, the students were introduced to the lecturers who will support and guide them during their academic journey.

The session also provided important information about administrative procedures and services that students need to understand from the beginning of their studies. This information is expected to help new students become familiar with the academic processes within the Department of Science Education. During the session, Purwanti Widhy Hastuti, M.Pd. emphasized the importance of achieving the Student Extracurricular Achievement (PEM) requirement throughout the study period. Students are required to accumulate a total of 80 PEM credits as one of the requirements for participating in the graduation confirmation process (yudisium). Therefore, new students are encouraged to actively develop themselves through student activities, organizations, achievements, and other extracurricular programs from the beginning of their academic journey. Through this Department Overview Session, the 124 new undergraduate Science Education students are expected to gain a better understanding of the academic environment they will experience during their studies. The activity also served as an important first step in welcoming students into the Department of Science Education family at FMIPA UNY and preparing them to pursue their academic journey with greater direction and confidence.
