Science Education Study Program UNY Collaborates with UiTM Malaysia for STEM Learning Transformation
Primary tabs
On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the Science Education Study Program FMIPA UNY received an academic visit from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Malaysia, in the context of a Guest Lecture and Workshop activity themed Transformative Teaching in STEM: Empowering the Next Generation of Educators. The event, which took place from 09.00-11.30, was attended by 5th semester students of the Science Education Study Program.
Two main speakers, Mohamad Hisyam Ismail, Ph.D., and Muhamad Furkan Mat Salleh, Ph.D., from the Department of Science Education, Faculty of Education, UiTM, shared insights on the transformation of STEM learning that focuses on developing future educators.
In addition to the Guest Lecture, students attended the Integrated STEM Education Workshop themed Creating Immersive STEM Experiences: Using Google AR and Minecraft Education for Integrated Learning. This workshop presents an immersive learning experience through the use of technology such as Google AR and Minecraft Education for science learning.
Six UiTM students who were also present as instructors—Muhammad Farhan Herman, Nur Shahaszadatul Natasya Shahibul Baharin, Alisa Diyana Amran, Nur Syamimi Farihah Shamsuddin, Farah Hanis Nor Azmi, and Hafizatul Asyrin Zulkhairi—guided participants in exploring creative ways to integrate technology in learning.
“We want students to see the potential of technology in creating interesting and relevant learning experiences. "STEM is not just about theory, but how to make it meaningful," said Mohamad Hisyam Ismail, Ph.D.
This activity provides students with the opportunity to directly practice digital media in science learning. By using Google AR, students learn to present interactive virtual objects, while Minecraft Education enables science simulations through a gaming environment.
This collaboration between UNY and UiTM is clear evidence of the importance of cross-country synergy in strengthening the quality of education. Apart from providing new insights, this activity also builds a global network that supports the development of students into innovative and adaptive educators in the digital era.
