Palangka Raya, September 24, 2025 – The Department of Science Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Palangka Raya held a workshop on The Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Physics and Biology Education featuring Dr. Sabar Nurohman, M.Pd. (Science Education Lecturer, Yogyakarta State University) as the keynote speaker. In his session, Dr. Sabar highlighted that AI should not be seen as a replacement for teachers, but rather as an “intelligent assistant” that empowers educators to create more adaptive, contextual, and inquiry-based learning experiences. His presentation revolved around four key pillars of AI integration: personalized learning, creative teaching material development, automation of assessment and administration, and virtual simulations of experiments.

The participants, comprising lecturers and science teachers from UIN Palangka Raya, expressed great enthusiasm and were deeply inspired by the practical demonstrations. Many noted how AI could support them in designing HOTS-based questions, conducting virtual experiments beyond laboratory limitations, and tailoring instruction to diverse student needs. Interactive activities, such as Mentimeter discussions and PhET Virtual Lab simulations, provided hands-on insights into AI’s potential as a pedagogical partner. One participant remarked, “We used to think of AI as just a text generator. Today, we realized AI can enrich analogies, create visuals, and even design innovative assessment instruments.” The workshop concluded with a reflective session emphasizing the importance of ethical and critical approaches in utilizing AI, ensuring that technology enhances rather than replaces the human touch in education. This event is expected to serve as a catalyst for digital transformation in science learning at UIN Palangka Raya and partner schools in Central Kalimantan.
